Saturday Morning Re-entry

Some people wake up between
the sky and the earth some people wake
up too soon there are
times that should be gone through
while still asleep breathing that
kind of oxygen some people
wake in their beds, get up to breakfast
but some wake too soon for
a Saturday morning and find the blue stuff
still below them
and the earth so close too far to
jump to but just a fall toward some
people wake up still bound within
the metal of their last dreams, hoping praying
what could carry them through the night
can get them through the day some
people wake up and holding cups of coffee they
decide this time they'll make the effort to
step out onto the porch and watch the shuttle's
bullet path across the sky
coming home, what returning home looks like,
how the heart arrives first
and the body following,
bright dot against the blue, some people wake too
early on a Saturday morning, their bodies
still miles away and something breaks up high
over Texas, leaving a trail of parts.
